Heavy Snow AlreadyFriday, 08 February 2013 This gentleman has no intention of shoveling two feet of snow. At least, not all at once. He told me that he and his son will be out here every hour keeping it clear. That's an ambitious goal, since the snow is expected to continue for another 20 hours. North Providence, Rhode Island
Leaning LimbsFriday, 08 February 2013 This is a shot up one of the side streets off Mineral Spring Avenue. What caught my attention was the snow gathering on the limbs of this sprawling tree. If it's as heavy as we expect it to be, that my bode ill for the tree come morning. North Providence, Rhode Island
Playing in the Snow Friday, 08 February 2013 These girls were having a bit of fun with the snow in the street, although they weren't quite sure what to make of a photographer walking around the neighborhood during the storm. North Providence, Rhode Island
SleddingFriday, 08 February 2013 Not much of a hill, but when there are no cars, it's sufficient for sledding. They never plowed this street when I was a kid, so we did a lot of sledding here. That's no longer the case, unfortunately. North Providence, Rhode Island
Snow Covered CurvesFriday, 08 February 2013 These are the curves at the top of my street. This area doesn't get much care and feeding from the plows, so it can be a bit challenging once it all freezes. North Providence, Rhode Island
Sliding UphillFriday, 08 February 2013 My street has a bit of a hill near the top, and as you can see in this photo, cars are having a bit of trouble navigating it in the snow. So far, there's not much on the ground, but what's there is wet and slippery. Once the temperature drops, this road will be a lot of fun. North Providence, Rhode Island
Staying Ahead of the StormFriday, 08 February 2013 30 years to the week after the infamous Blizzard of '78, Rhode Island is bracing for another major blizzard. As of this writing, the forecast still calls for up to 29 inches of snow but with a bit of a twist. After almost a foot falls, we're supposed to get a brief change over to rain. Then we get the second foot on top of that. So shoveling this stuff tomorrow is going to be like shoveling bricks. That is typical of blizzards in Rhode Island, though. We tend to get very wet, heavy snow in storms like this.

Today's photo is of an elderly woman that lives near the end of my street. She must be in her 80s at least, but she's always extremely active around her house. She is staying a step ahead of the storm, keeping her walk clear rather than dealing with over two feet of it tomorrow. In all the time I've lived here, I've never seen her accept any help in shoveling. It's impressive to see her out there caring for her lawn in the summer and shoveling snow in the winter. Slow GoingFriday, 08 February 2013 The heavy snow has traffic crawling down my hill. There is a 4-way stop sign at this intersection, and you can hear the cars slide as they approach it. North Providence, Rhode Island
Ready to ShovelFriday, 08 February 2013 This elderly woman is always one of the first in the neighborhood to start shoveling. Since she never seems to let anyone help clear her walk, it does make sense trying to stay on top of the snowfall. North Providence, Rhode Island
