Storm Over Sand Dunes, White Sands National Monument, New Mexico:
Summer storms in the desert are wonderful phenomena to photograph. My daughter, Danielle, and I watched this storm from a distance and captured this image before we had to leave to avoid the rainy effect of this scene. The dark clouds rendered the sand dunes in this image more like waives on a turbulent ocean. As we hiked back to our car, I noticed Danielle’s hair standing on end due to the lightning activity from the storm. Without telling her why, we quickly hiked through the valleys of the dunes and safely away from the storm.
