Photo Capture March 16, 2018:
People seem to be making up for loss time here in Southwest Florida. A week ago many beaches along this coast line were closed because the Red Tide was really strong. On March 9th, I was at a beach a little farther north and noticed I kept coughing as well as some other people. I witnessed a man saying that the Naples beaches were closed; that is a very rare occasion. So, people are happy at the beach again today.
I should say that "Red Tide" is when something has happened (usually phosphates and chemicals wash down one of the rivers into the gulf waters) to kill a whole of sea life and it washes upon the beaches and causes a really nasty stench. You breathe that into your lungs and it causes you to cough. The stench can last a few days or more than a week. A few miles south of this spot, which is Hickory Beach in Bonita Springs, Florida, I could still smell it a little today.
