That's my Grammar and High School friend, Jim Crue. He was the Illinois state bicycle champion. When we were young, I would bust my a** trying to keep up with him. I never could, but I sure got a helluva lot stronger trying.
Here's what he wrote, recently: I started riding again last year as you know and while it took me a few thousand miles to get my cycling legs back I have made great progress for someone who was away from the sport for 32 years and is 63 years old. Everyone I ride with is younger than me and it forced me to go places on the bike , I mean physically, that I had not been in 32 years. Sometimes it feels like someone is pounding spikes in my thighs the effort is so intense. From April of last year until Dec, 31 of 2009 I rode over 8000 miles. I rode an indoor trainer this winter and was also able to get in about 500 miles of outdoor riding on my cyclocross bike. It was very cold, sometimes below zero. I went to Arizona last month to ride with a bunch of guys in our cycling club. We rode over 500 hard miles over the 6 days. I get very tired sometimes and certainly don't have the power I had when I was young but I am happy with what I have done so far. I have decided to race in the over 50 years of age category and my first race is in 2 weeks.
You go, Jim!
