(When The World Was Still) Black and White
Men my age should never begin a sentence with, "My mom," but this is in fact a photograph of my mom's hands. It came about when she told me she had to get rid of some of my childhood belongings. Because I didn't want her to throw away something important, I came over to pick out a few things that needed to be saved.
While sorting through these items, I noticed a clear plastic jar filled with seashells. At first I was confused, but then I remembered I'd collected them for my mother while on vacation in the Bahamas in 1991.
As soon as I opened the jar, my olfactory senses were bombarded with tropical smells. Sand, salt water, coconut oil - my mind was immediately transported back to a simpler time, when the world was still black and white.
