Seemingly Abandoned23 May 2013 -- 143/365Johnston, Rhode IslandThe remains of a hay wagon and some farm equipment lay seemingly abandoned on the border of Dame Farm and Snake Den State Park. Technically, the two overlap since the historic farm was is part of the state managed property when Snake Den was purchased from the Palazzi family in 1969. The state plans to maintain this portion of the farm as a working farm to preserve Rhode Island's "rich but diminishing agricultural heritage."Despite the name, Snake Den is not associated with any of the reptiles that reputedly occupied much of the state. Rather, it's named for a canyon-like fissure that is a remnant of the state's glacial past. The 1000 acre park has numerous hiking trails that were sparsely marked the last time I wandered through the area. Some of the trails lead to this field, although the abundance of deer ticks (and the accompanying threat of Lyme Disease) in the area has reduced the number of summer visitors significantly.Post processing started with a brilliant warm filter in Topaz Adjust. I adjusted adaptive exposure, regions, contrast, and protect highlights. A levels adjustment was added in PSE.
