Black & White Texas Train
December 24, 2014
This is a shot from a visit to the Texas State Railroad which is a classic steam train that runs from Palestine to Rusk, Texas then makes the same trek back. According to Wikipedia: The Texas State Railroad was founded in 1881 to haul freight between the two towns. The freight hauling activities ended in 1921. The state leased the line to private companies until 1969 then turned it over to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department in 1972. In 2007, the railroad was transferred to the Texas State Railroad Authority and is now privately operated as a living history museum."
Our family loves taking this ride at least once every summer. For many of you that have participated in the Dailys for awhile, you know that I live with a family that are certifiable train nuts.
This shot is at the Rusk depot where the make the train makes the turnaround to head back to Palestine. This gentleman was riding as spotter to ensure the proper hook up of the engine to the passenger cars.
It's hard to believe that tomorrow is Christmas. It's arrived (for me) very quickly. Nevertheless I'm in the spirit, all the gifts have been purchased and wrapped, and we are looking forward to spending time with family and friends.
Bill and I will have a quiet day tomorrow and enjoy each other's company. A neighborhood Christmas party on Friday, and the 2nd of our family Christmas gatherings on Saturday. We're really looking forward to the time together and for me, some time away from the office.
Have a fantastic day my friends!
Late Post - I got my calendar a little ahead of the actual one on my starter comment. Nevertheless Happy early New Year's Eve, AND a Merry Christmas Eve to all!
