North American Southwestern Scissor-tail-flycatcher displaying his long streaming tail. The male will perform a spectacular sky dance hundreds of feet above during courtship in a thrilling flight pattern of zigs zags, and spiraling down into backward somersaults. It is an aerobatic courtship few birds perform.
This is the first oil painting I created. During this process I would visit my mother who showed me how to mix the linseed oil, varnish, and turpentine with the paints. I began with the sky and my mother commented on the color being dreary... I just liked the way it blended. As I would visit her and talk over tea about my kids I had to wait for each layer to dry... which took weeks and then turn into a year.... I had to take the painting home and adjust the mixtures to accelerate the dry time. I fell in love with oil painting and so it began.
