This is the future site of The Meadow, just past the Beach museum arch. This will be the site of 20 species of native Kansas grasses and wild flowers.
A big thank you to everyone who wished me a happy birthday today. According to my grandmother: 44 years ago today (June 17th, 1969) my parents found me at this location in the middle of a patch of skunk cabbage. True story, I'm sure. This however is not skunk cabbage. Often misidentified, this is actually a plant know as the Corn Lily (Veratrum californicum). Large thick leaves and when it blooms the produced stalk and flowers resembles that of a stalk of corn.
