The Moon and Venus Rising
March 2, 2015
I took this photo on the evening of February 21st while I was grilling steaks on the patio around 8:00. That was before our little cold, snowy and then rainy weather blew in the next day.
While working on the grill, I just happened to notice how the sliver of moon looked so cool between the branches of one of our Red Oak trees.
Then, I noticed the bight star just below it & to the right was shining so brightly, so I ran in the house, grabbed the camera, and took this photo.
It's a hand-held shot and grittier than I would have liked, but I think it turned out ok for a quick experimental shot.
After a quick Internet search of Earthsky, I determined that the bright star to the lower right (if the moon is 12:00, Venus is at about 4:30) was the planet Venus. Cool, huh? I've never had any luck at all getting good moon shots, so for me I liked this one pretty well. Far from the great shots many of you have put up, but this is the first shot that I've taken & sort of liked.
