Death Valley. This solarized image won First Place, Monochrome prints at the 2013 at he spring conference of NFRCC. It also won First place award as the peoples choice at the same NFRCC. It also won an Honorable Mention in the pictorial salon at NFRCC. It won Second Place at Camera Rochester, March 4, 2013
A time exposure from an area known as the 'Pillars of Rome'. I was going for something a little different in this rendition. I made one exposure while the moon was over the silhouetted cliff; after the moon set I made a 10 hour exposure for the stars and a bit of light painting on the foreground sagebrush. I'm not sure what the light is in the upper left; that's the fun part about shooting with a camera that isn't always light tight. After finishing up a night run in Portland's, Forest Park, I grabbed my medium format Holga camera and walked to this spot a short distance away. The inversion Portland was under at the time made for some extremely calm and foggy conditions. I was standing at 1000ft in elevation which was the transition zone between the dense clouds and the starry night sky. The diffused glow from the moon created some interesting photo opportunities as it intermittently illuminated this stand of alders. I almost always find myself shooting alder forests using a low-angled perspective such as this.
