Slotted III - Black Point Fissures, Mono Lake. One of the outstanding features of the Black Point Volcano on the North Shore of Mono Lake is its fissures. The erruptive eposode occured during a glacial period when Mono Lake was much larger, and as a result Black Point volcano was formed under the lakes icy waters. The Rapid cooling of this errupted material created the fissures, and over time as the lake, and the world dried up....we are now able to explore this once, underwater volcano, today with hiking boots rather than scuba gear.
