SmugMug > keywords > night > Christmas Blizzard 2009 - A rather historic photo shot on Neosho street facing East in Burlington Kansas at 1:45 AM Christmas morning during the power outage that started about 10:00 PM Christmas eve and lasted another hour beyond the picture. The available lighting was reflecting in the blowing snow from a string of lights around the roof of the courthouse a half a block behind me that was running on a backup generator. The city had been working on the streets but had stopped for the night. The Shot was an 86 second time lapse with a 50mm lens at F1.4 at ISO 400.

Just one more day to go.....

I love this bridge, it is a photographer's dream, day or night. You never have to wait too long for someone to walk into the scene and give it a narrative, but to get people on top and underneath was a bonus. At night I think a grainy B&W works best too, and adds an extra sense of mystery.

I could write a long caption about this shot, but all I want to do is tell everyone to go and watch the film "Avatar" right now. I took this looking back at the cinema after watching a truly remarkable film. It is a game changer as far as the CGI is concerned, but it is a damn good film anyway. The story has been told a million times, but it needs to be re-told until everyone gets it, IMHO of course :)

Been a long time since I did a straight B&W for my Daily, but it suits my mood today. I must have been the only person paying money in, everyone else seemed to be spending it as fast as they could. It has also warmed up a bit, but I much prefer -2C and snow to +3C and drizzle, especially when I'm still trying to shake off my bug. Everything looked, and felt,very grey and depressing today, but things brightened up a bit after dark when the lights came on.

If you want a more lighthearted shot for today, which came from the same original image as this one, then try here; http://www.lightanddreamsphotography.com/Photography/INSPIRATION/10329875_Lpojy#752425468_ZmGgn

OK so this isn't a Christmas decoration, but at a quick glance it could be :)

I'm still struggling to shake off a nasty bug that I picked up on Christmas Eve, and after only two hours battling with the crowds in town this afternoon I fell asleep on the settee! I took this shot from the top of the hill looking back over town at dusk, and I thought this would be a different way to present it. Planets, like all forms of PP, can be over done, but I hope this one is a bit different to most and suits the festive spirit.

I know some of you have done these in the past, but for those who have yet to become megalomaniacs by creating their own worlds, here is a link to some simple instructions;
