Should Daniel come by here again. These were used to burn wood that was not usable (Spinouts in the laythe, to big for the chipper or some other problem).
I was at the same place in 2000 for my honeymoon and road trip to Washington from Denver. I have a few nice photos of this on film. Someone told me that this was used to dry the wood. They were not that old, lol. So now after 8 years I know what the heck this thing is. Nice photo!
Megan, These tall cones used to be used at lumber mills to burn bark, limbs and broken pieces of logs to help keep the lumber mills cleaned up. You could see them burning from miles away at night, glowing in the dark. you can get an idea of the size by spotting the deer on the right in the shadow of the cone.
