The Ghost of a Tree.
This tree began its life atop something called a nursery log - a fallen tree that slowly rots away, giving its nutrients to other plants. Many grasses, ferns, and even trees grow on these nutrient rich platforms. When trees continue to develop from this layer, they send roots down into the ground around the log. The log later rots away, leave a hollow space like this one underneath the arch-shaped root system of the new tree.
