Y is Winter Lasting So Long?
Letter Y - Conjoined icicles
Judy's Letter Shape Challenge Week #9 (March 16, 2014)
DP075-2014 Posted March 16; created March 15 from a photo taken March 9
At the beginning of this letter shape challenge, back in January, I'd have given extremely low odds that my chosen image for the letter Y would be an icicle. Typically, icicles just don't grow this way. Nature is full of surprises, though. Once I saw this, I knew the opportunity was too good to pass up.
Title: Y is Winter Lasting So Long?
See the source image for this Y here: http://smu.gs/1cL3obx It differs from the posted shot only in being not so tightly cropped, and not having the frame.

As a side note, the icicles were actually growing at this slight slant . . . formed under windy conditions, I guess. I tried artificially aligning them with the bottom of the Y exactly vertical, but didn't like how much of the other icicles I'd have to crop out.
