Block 24, the brothel. It was set up as a morale booster for workers in good favor. There was only one woman for every 300 to 500 men. The men were given access to them in the evening, 7 to 10 PM, for no more than 15 minutes. It was a tough life for the women, but they were well fed, given good clothes and comforts, and nearly all of them survived the war. Men paid the SS two or three Reichmarks for access- about what 20 cigarettes cost. For various reasons including poor health and suspicions of SS trickery, only about 1 percent of men who qualified took advantage.
