This picture doesn’t begin to capture the craziness that was Spiderwed Salon, but it’s the best I got. I was busy shooting video the whole time, but I did manage to sneak a few stills in before the ceremony began. Basically, Spiderweb threw a wedding at the Denton Historical Park, but took out the bride and groom. Instead, the whole event became a celebration of love in all its varying forms. It was designed to feel like a real wedding, where the bride and groom hadn’t actually shown up yet, and the entire ceremony is spent stalling for time while people periodically check in with updates on where they are and what’s going on. Meanwhile, folks would come up and play music or workshop poems with the crowd. It was super fun and totally weird. There was a “ring bear” and a guy hawking popcorn throughout the ceremony. It was a beautiful thing. There may have been some cake throwing.
After the ceremony, everyone wandered to Dan’s, where there was a legit (and delicious) wedding cake (AND an equally-tasty groom’s cake), cookies, you name it. They dressed the place up to look and feel like a wedding reception, and they did a fantastic job. A Taste of Herb even played for much of the night. They’re a Herb Alpert cover band I’d never heard before. I hope I get to hear them again soon.
