Also, from a note from Bill's sister, Barbara, who recently wrote: "Patsy told me recently that a man came in a taxi and gave Mother a telegram. He asked if there was a man there. Daddy was at the stockyard in Knoxville. Patsy was at home sick. (She was 8 yrs. old.) He just gave her the telegram and left. It was the day we got out of school for Thanksgiving. J. E. and I walked from the crossroads home. When we got about halfway between where J. E. lives and home I heard Mother screaming. Patsy didn't know what was happening. We had no phone. The man stopped to get the McCullouch's (lived by the railroad) to come. I never remember seeing the telegram. I want to locate his Purple Heart and the flag from his casket...Her (Kerma's) mother had all the family pictures. I will call Jerry also. Thanks for all your help. I was Bill's pet. Everytime J. E. hit me, Bill hit J. E."
