2011-33. MaGermany demonstration in Maputo.
MaGermany means "the people from Germany". In the eighties of the last century, the socialist countries GDR and Mozambique had an agreement on labour exchange. More than 20000 Mozambicans went to the GDR for work. They were supposed to save 60% of their salary during their stay in the GDR. When they came back, they were told that they have no right on this money. This was 1990. Since then the MaGermany are protesting. This movement created an identity of this community. They say, if they not want to be understood by somebody, they switch to german. I had the chance to se their protest in maputo, which takes place every wednesday. There were some 200 participants
