4.14.2014 Cornices on the Wains Hotel in Dunedin nz
At least I THINK they are called cornices! Wains Hotel Dunedin. Built in 1879 it was an expression of Otago's gold mining period. The Victorian interior was opulent enough to make the hotel famous through all of Australasia. But it was modernized in the 1970's. Thank goodness the Italianate Classical Renaissance facade remains largely unmodified (From Architecture Dunedin, A guid to Dunedin Architecture from Parker Warburton Team Architects. My favorite part are these beautiful cornices. Let me know if that's not what they are called.
