SmugMug > popular > Journalism > I thought the reflection in my son's glasses was pretty cool. He glanced this way, but moved before I could get the shot, so I asked him to "look over there again" for me and he did...kinda. He posed for me while I took the picture, but he said "I was looking at you Dad, but you couldn't tell. ha ha." It was cute. :)

SmugMug > popular > Journalism > hOw rUde! I hope this is taken in context. This is a small sample of the trash we find on our property. We live "in the country" and own approximately 4 acres of great land. However, people have "trashed" the property and will go out of their way to drive off the main road to dump "their" trash. The earth is a beautiful place, why do people trash it?
SmugMug > popular > Journalism > Those of you who read the comments in the DailyPhotos will appreciate this one, but in order to do so, you have to look at the other photo that I also posted today.

I was randomly taking photos of things around Kennywood Park and just wanted to capture some nice shots with my 70-300 of the coasters. As I walked by the wooden coaster, I waited just a minute and snapped about 4 pictures of the train of cars (see other picture). About 30 minutes later, I was walking by the steel coaster, Phantom's Revenge and snapped 2 pictures of it as it went by. We were on our way to see a show so I was hustling along and took the shots and proceeded onto the show.

Later that night when I imported the pictures and was reviewing them I couldn't believe what I saw. I managed to get the same 2 people in the front car on both coasters. I have no idea who they are, but I'm sure they would love to have these pictures if only there was a way to find them.

I bet if I tried to do that with someone I knew it wouldn't have turned out as well. Such is the life of photography, right?

SmugMug > popular > Journalism > June 23, 2008. This is another image I had on my HD but I recently "played" with the look in Lightroom 2.0. I converted it to B & W and adjusted the edges of the photo to put the emphasis on the center to emulate the look of a 'spot' light.
SmugMug > popular > Journalism > This was taken in Buttermilk Falls near Beaver Falls PA near the PA turnpike exchange. I drive by this area on a weekly basis but never stopped to explore its beauty. Yesterday I decided to hike back into the woods via a path and immediately was taken back by the quietness and beauty that I drove by and never realized. This is my first attempt at a waterfall image. Any comments are welcome. I converted it to B&W in Lightroom to enhance the contrast.
SmugMug > popular > Journalism > This "homeless" bird tells the story of my night in downtown Memphis (while visiting Memphis on a business trip). Nearly every corner brought an encounter with a homeless person begging for money. They were very aggressive in their approach; coming up to us and putting their hand on our shoulder and/or shaking hands and "patronizing" us to get money. Another approached us and stated he was a homeless writer. He was selling an article he wrote.

This bird wandered away from the nest and was struggling to fly. I do wish I could have helped it back to its nest. However, the nest was nowhere in sight.
SmugMug > popular > Journalism > Happy Fathers Day (USA Holiday) Tell your family and friends this is what you want for Father's Day... This Nikon 400mm f/2.8 lens can be had for a measly $6500 used. This does not count the device to hold the 35 pounds of glass nor the $300 polarizer. I was taking pictures at the Pittsburgh Airshow when I looked over and Paul (I did not know him at the time) walked up with a cart and out of the cart came this monster of a lens. I felt like crawling under a rock with my measly 70-300. He was a great guy to talk with and he shared great tips on taking pix of jets. He had it mounted on a Nikon D2x which seemed small compared to the lens.

I took a few pictures with the camera and lens and will tell you it is a science and art to get one good shot with this monster. He produced many great images.

I have many other shots but this one seemed to fit the bill for "lens lust". :-)
SmugMug > popular > Journalism > The winter was harsh with over 20 inches of snow but it filled the ground with the nutrients to bring forth tremendous color in all the trees. This lavender tree is producing beautiful buds of color. Thank you Lord for spring!
