I woke up early to get a sunrise shot of the lake after a week of nearly constant snow in the Canadian Rockies. The light wasn't all that good, and in fact it doesn't get into the lake until almost 9 AM in late September. So after some shooting in the cold, I walked back down the rockpile, slipped and fell hard on the icy stairs, slowly got up and went inside to have breakfast with my wife at the Moraine Lake lodge. In the midst of breakfast, I saw the light was changing for the better, apologized to my wife and sprinted to get my gear and head back up. The wind was up and the reflections weren't so good for a while, but after about 10 minutes it calmed down and a man and his son headed across the lake in their canoe. Lucky timing on my part, as I was there to catch it, and get the shot of the trip.
