SmugMug > popular > Other > October 12, 2007 Ewww . . . what DID you step in? These girls are always so beautiful and upbeat that it was just by coincidence that I caught this cheerleader's grimace. Still, the picture made me laugh. I've known this particular girl and her family since the grade school bus-stop days, and was thrilled to reconnect with them at a recent game. I hope they enjoy this as much as I did.

SmugMug > popular > Other > 9-21-08 So fall is JUUUST starting to peek its little head out now. Alisha and I went to visit the Mount Timpanogos Temple in American Fork this afternoon and I just liked how the colors looked together -- the gray-white of the building with the orange-ing leaves preparing for autumn. I might go back again soon when the colors are in fuller season. :-)
SmugMug > popular > Other > 9/18/08 Daily Photo. Day 197. This monument memorializes the fact that every member of the American Expeditionary Force of WWI left for the war from Hoboken. This location was a pier from whence they departed. Hence the slogan, "Heaven, Hell or Hoboken!" that was popular during the war. So they tell me, I wasn't there. My grandfather however was. But he didn't leave from Hoboken because he was with the Royal Irish Fusiliers...but I digress... The moon over Manhattan that I wanted to shoot the other night was perfectly above the Empire State Building tonight when I walked out of the gym...but I had forgotten my tripod and although I tried taking some shots without it, they did not come out. But, low and behold, I turn around and see these flags flying stiff in the breeze and said to myself "Bingo, pic of the day". If you look closely, you will see the flag from the flagpole on the other side of the fountain is also straight out in the breeze. Sorry I haven't done much commenting this week. Let's just say I have been preoccupied because I have more than a passing interest in the financial news this week and leave it at that. I was listening to Springsteen's "The Seeger Sessions" album as I took this shot and "My Oklahoma Home" about the dust bowl of the 30's and the havoc that it wreaked on that album in particular reminded me that history has a way of repeating itself.... "everything but my mortgage blown away....". These are challenging times indeed.
SmugMug > popular > Other > 9/7/08 Daily Photo. Day 186. The Feast of the Madonna Dei Martiri. This Feast has been held in Hoboken for 82 years by that part of the Italian community which originally came from Molfetta, Italy, where this Feast originated. There is a procession through Hoboken to the Hudson River where this statue is put on a boat in the river. There is also a 4 day feast ( a carnival type event) along the waterfront with bands and vendors and rides and so forth. I created a gallery with a lot of photos I took today. This is a photo of the beginning of the procession from the church. I'm not Italian nor Catholic (anymore...) but I can respect the traditions.

Paul brought me home some beautiful sterling roses today as a surprise and I decided to try something new with them -- I spritzed them with water! I've always wanted to try something like that, and I finally got to today. So I've given you a shot with several flowers in it and another that's just a closeup of one.
