day 48

nosey

well, my camera arrived at the repair center. now the long wait for info on repairs begins. i think i am handling it well.... maybe.... :o)

on a side note, my parents called me today from Portugal. they are supposed to be flying back to New Orleans (they live in Baton Rouge) Monday. unfortunately thanks to Gustav, their flight from New Jersey to New Orleans has been canceled. the New Orleans airport is being completely closed tomorrow morning.

hopefully they will be able to fly in somewhere close and drive home or stay with us. we'll have to play it by ear tho.

hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!!

i love thistle flowers but find them hard to get because they're so fleeting. the day these were prime my enregy and the light were no good and by the time i got back they're already past it. i still like them tho. posting early and straight to bed so can finally go to work tomorrow, sure hope i can make a whole shift as they need me pretty badly

07/14/08

everything's been blooming late this year; actually just bloomed a lot longer than the usual season i guess as we've had "spring" flowers since april. this is the lone iris i know of around town and i loved the dark color so i ahd to try a shot. have been really enjoying catching up on the great pics and interesting commentary this week-end. i'm done in now tho so off to bed, this darn cold is slowly easing its grip and going away. i'm being extra careful to sleep more than usual to keep that trend going

i liked this daisy with the buttercups behind it. the buttercups were growing over two feet off of the ground, perhaps the longest stems on buttercups i've ever seen, and the daisy was close to three feet tall

"hard times don't bother me, life is so glorius.
so you try and fail at first, try again avoid the worst...
life is one experience, that only a fool could refuse."
from 'hard times don't bother me' by joe higgs
06/30/08

this is my sis's camera bag. she designed and sewed the decoration, taking the line from the joe higgs song and the lion from an ethiopian coin. it is a sentiment i completely agree with! had dinner with DOD and fam as planned. DOD is getting used to his electric wheelchair and new breathing assist device and is in his usual good spirits, despite being tired and unable to leave the house. we thank God for each extra day we get... life is SO glorious
SmugMug > popular > Other > I decided to go with our dog "Jackson" today. I thought he looked cute setting there in his Harley cap!!

ME!

Here's a HUGE salute to each of you who turns out wonderful SP's over and over. That's so much harder to do than it looks, and I'm asking -- BEGGING for your advice and suggestions!
(not that I plan to make the SP thing a regular event, but it is a skill I need to improve)

I had my lights and backdrop set up, and was waiting for people to come in for headshots, so I decided to play around a bit. First because autofocus would have picked up on the backdrop, I put a big cardboard sign on my stool and focused manually on that. Then I used my timer and ran around to try and put my face in the right place. It would have been comical to watch, and when someone walked in I jumped up and said I was "playing with my lights." That part was kind of embarrassing, but not too much. I don't get embarrassed like I used to.

This is a pretty serious crop because I was about out of the frame anyway. There was nothing more to leave in at the top left, and I've become a fan of very tight headshots.

I've never considered myself very photogenic and now have decided that I probably don't wear enough makeup, but I kind of liked this one because I look happy and not too goofy.

Ran it through several different filters before I picked this one with a friendly glamor/faded effect. It is what it is -- and that's my Picture of the Day and I'm a stickin' to it.
