SmugMug > popular > Other > 9/20/08 Daily Photo. Day 199. I rode my bike 23.5 miles today and here is my proof. The George Washington Bridge from the Palisades Interstate Park. About 11 miles from Hoboken. I had to stand in the roadway to take photos and while there aren't too many cars, there are enough that you have to be careful. Also, I didn't have a helmet and there was a sign that said they were required on that roadway in the park, so I basically snapped a few pics and turned around. The bridge is about a half mile into the park and is above you. It's a tad disorienting...for me anyway. The original plan called for those towers to be encased in concrete in the Art Deco style, but since it looked so good without the concrete, they left it off. My new spedometer/odometer let's me track my speed and distance.
SmugMug > popular > Other > July 14, 2008 ME! Here's a HUGE salute to each of you who turns out wonderful SP's over and over. That's so much harder to do than it looks, and I'm asking -- BEGGING for your advice and suggestions! (not that I plan to make the SP thing a regular event, but it is a skill I need to improve) I had my lights and backdrop set up, and was waiting for people to come in for headshots, so I decided to play around a bit. First because autofocus would have picked up on the backdrop, I put a big cardboard sign on my stool and focused manually on that. Then I used my timer and ran around to try and put my face in the right place. It would have been comical to watch, and when someone walked in I jumped up and said I was "playing with my lights." That part was kind of embarrassing, but not too much. I don't get embarrassed like I used to. This is a pretty serious crop because I was about out of the frame anyway. There was nothing more to leave in at the top left, and I've become a fan of very tight headshots. I've never considered myself very photogenic and now have decided that I probably don't wear enough makeup, but I kind of liked this one because I look happy and not too goofy. Ran it through several different filters before I picked this one with a friendly glamor/faded effect. It is what it is -- and that's my Picture of the Day and I'm a stickin' to it.
SmugMug > popular > Other > rainy day hedge blossoms 07/04/08 happy independence day to all my fellow americans, and happy friday/saturday to all the rest of you. it was my very fav weather today; gray, overcast, drizzling rain and about 55F. perfect for wiping pollen and other irritants out of the air and remaing cool. had to use a flash for this as light was so low. this hedge is right behind the bus stop nearest my apartment and while it is very beautiful and lush it is also one of my allergic irritants tho it was no problem today. i thought these were beautiful with the water on them and shot with very low flash to try to keep as much of the luster of the 'wet look' as possible. for scale the leaf at the bottom is about 1.5 inches long. for you who enjoy the bus paint jobs i also captured another one of them i've been wanting to - http://dedmanshootn.smugmug.com/gallery/4855371_JgWrE#325115221_QNaCY

SmugMug > popular > Other > panfried steak and onions 10/12/08 didn't go out at all today despite some nice sunshine, just too tired to move. this, plus some sea salt and vinegar potato chips, was lunch, had some juicy (on sale) globe grapes for desert. while cooking i had a switch click in my head and composed a... i'll call it poem, as i was remembering the comments and fun with karina and john a couple weeks ago about fried food, while i was waiting for my food to be ready. quite a few of you have shared such so i decided to afflict you with mine: fried til i've died i like fried food and i will not lie tho other people may decry, and say it puts zits on my face and it'll cause my heart to race; but i say YUM! fried chicken? give me some! add some lovely pommes de frit and fried dough to go with it. fry some ice cream put it on a plate i'll eat it whate'er my fate. our days number is by us unkown this world is just a temporary home, so eat what you have with zest! cooked the way that you like best. for me that'll often be fried enjoyed til the day i've died. whene'er they lay me 'neath the sod and i'm face to face with God i expect He'll hear me say, in my own unsubtle way, "i like fried food and i will not lie!" by dedmanshootn all rights reserved got another of the decorated buses for those who like them http://dedmanshootn.smugmug.com/gallery/4855371_JgWrE#391612042_Zu8iR

This shot in particular really touched my heart, I feel it captured a bit of the tenderness I was seeing so much of. Cape Town, SA Sorry may dailies have been more like weeklies. I've been following SM though- you guys have been taking some wonderful shots!
SmugMug > popular > Other > bbd 06/26/08 hershy wanted a 'happy' pic after yesterdays 'depression' (which was foil tho not b&w just shot with contrast and brightness set very low and less than ambient flash, i wanted it even duller in tone and the darks darker and had tried to create a hint of prison bars with the not quite there vertical lines but ...) so i took advantage of a quick break at work today to snap this. those of you familiar with my dailies will recognize the little boss who was happy to see her friends as she's been having a very tough week. she actually had to go to the e-room sunday for treatment for a severe allergy attack and had to miss swimming lessons all this week as a result. the bbd is not for bigger better deal but for brianna, bogie and dan. dan is a good friend and customer of ours who usually brings bogie for a visit when he comes for lunch. bogie is a delightful and well behaved patterdale terrier and brianna just adores him. bogie is a pro at mooching treats from my boss too
SmugMug > popular > Other > light pink hollyhock in the rain 08/28/08 had a tough day today for a variety of reasons, knowing why things aren't going well doesn't relly help while things are going wrong - at least with how one feels about it anyway. didn't even take my camera with me when i went to work i was so whatever (a rare thing i don't take my camera) then came home and crashed and burned for a while. felt a bit better after a nap and then a lovely light rain shower came so i went to see what i could get with the pink hollyhock again. this is a different flower and natural light this time and it was open as it'd been sunny earlier. hope y'all've had good day. fell asleep again when i came in from getting this so didn't get to look at your pics and i have to go to bed now as i must be up and out early in the morning, i'm more a 'get up at the crack of noon' guy by nature ;-) starting to go into withdrawal from not looking through the dailies
