SmugMug > popular > Other > August 6th 2008 ~ I haven't done a thing to this at all (obviously) but I really wanted to get back to posting - As you can see we aren't a top notch walker yet (notics the mark under his eyes - like you can miss it) When we went down the coast we stayed at my cousins the night anyway she has one of them yappy little rat sized dogs Daniel was terrified of it which makes no sense because he LOVES our dfog Maggie who is a GREAT BIG licking lovaeable husky (whi tries to love him to death MOST days) and steals his biccies on a regular basis (he still hasn't learnt when we go outside not to visit with Maggie til he's finished eating) ANYWAY Ralph(rat-sized dog) has the run of the house there everytime he went to close to Daniel Daniel would let out a horrified cry and run (did I mention we still haven't mastered running)anyway Daniel was exploring the pots and pans draw when Ralph ventured into the kitchen and he reacted so quick he jammed his fingers in the draw - feet got away from under him and face hit draw corner there was a split second of silence then he let us have it with both barrells poor little guy anyway needless to say I felt suffieciently helpless and maybe a little guilty for laughing at him earlier when he had been running from him it had just seemed silly that he was sop scared of teeny tiny Ralph and not biccy stealing Daniel knocking face licking Maggie - Go figure that one - Anyway I am posting again today playing a little catch up (YaY 4 me) til then ((((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))) I am going to play catch up with your comments during Daniels sleep so if I haven't made it to you yet I am Coming

Okay, this shot is totally, completely, 100% inspired by banjon's photo:
http://banjon.smugmug.com/gallery/4356946_mQ7BB/1/284877278_V4RGd#284877278_V4RGd

I like the idea so much that I just had to see if I could try something similar for today's daily. I like banjon's a little better with the blue background and the interesting shapes in the crystal, but I thought that for what I had, this would do okay. Sorry to have yet ANOTHER satin shot, you're probably getting sick of them, but I just couldn't resist. ;-)

I still intend to steal banjon's idea (warning to banjon), and I'd like to try this same shot again sometime, but add some diamonds (or at least CZ *wink*) around to add some flavor, maybe even try sprinkling some stones in one of the goblets, or maybe put a flower here somewhere...the possibilities are endless, but for right now this is what I have.

A big storm blew in this weekend, and in between rain showers I took a walk to the beach to see the surf. HUGE. Triple head high at least. Washing over the street (over the 12 foot tall sea wall), breaking on the sidewalk. This young boy was the only one brave enough to look over the railing. He would sprint ever time a wave grew too close, and needless to say was soaked by the end. I thought this shot did an ok job of capturing his intrepid spirit with the big wave overhead. However, remembering to frame. the. shot. so as not to cut off certain anatomically important features will be a good lesson.

I cropped the original and converted to black and white for a bit of drama (and sharpened).

Off before the rain comes back. Hope to catch up on your guys great shots later!

Taps

Today we laid a hero to rest. Uncle Raymond was my grandmother’s baby brother and he was 94 years old. This may have been the only funeral ever to include both military honors at the cemetery, and a whoopee cushion salute at the reception.

Uncle Raymond was a WWII veteran who provided distinguished service as a Flight Officer and a Glider Pilot. He served in Germany during Operation Varsity, landing his glider behind enemy lines during the largest single-day airborne operation of the War. Most of the glider pilots did not survive their missions. He was the recipient of the Air Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, and the Bronze Star.

He built his home with his own two hands. He raised countless dogs and a bit of wildlife as well as two outstanding sons. He loved his wife, kids, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and he taught us all how to live for the day. He took in countless troubled teen and preteen boys, giving them guidance and leadership. His vegetable garden was the standard by which all others are measured. He hunted, fished, photographed and filmed. He was the chief of the volunteer fire department and I can’t think of anything that he didn’t do and do well.

Most of all though, Uncle Raymond will be remembered as an outstanding storyteller and the king of practical jokes. The jokes and tricks he played on family, friends, and strangers could fill an entire book. Some were extremely elaborate while others were just silly, so it was only fitting that one of his granddaughters passed out whoopee cushions at the reception and asked everyone to blow them up and sit on them together. I believe I can still hear him chuckling over that sendoff.

If there was ever a great man, it was Uncle Raymond and we will miss him – but the world is truly a better place because he walked and worked in it for such a long time.

 . . . All is well . . . . safely rest . . . God is nigh!

Sousaphones!

My husband and I were both band geeks in high school. He even carried the tradition on into college. Stands to reason that all of our kids would be in band too. (Today's band kids aren't so geeky anymore. They're pretty fine, good looking, smart, funny, and self-confident.)

I LOVE marching season. This shot reminds me of one of my favorite old-tyme stadium cheers. It went something like this . . . (in a very deep low voice)

Toooo Ba . . . .Toooo Ba . . . Tooooo Ba!

Okay, I guess I'm still a band geek, and proud to be one too.
