SmugMug > popular > Other > tiger swallowtail butterfly (i think) 07/12/08 (1of2) we had a beautiful visitor at work today. he flew up, exhausted, and landed on our front door just as i was getting off the bus. i got a piece of paper and urged him onto it then carried him around to our back door in the shade. after an hour or so of resting he recovered somewhat and crawled up our brickwall which is where i got this shot once the initial lunch rush had been served. there is a second post today, at the "please, please, PLEASE!" request of the little boss, of her and this beauty. this is the first large live butterfly she's seen 'in the wild'. i'm off to bed once again but i think i am a bit better today than yesterday. rotten colds! i'm taking the week-end off so shall be looking through what i've missed, and boy am i looking forward to that!, when and as i have energy. thanks for all the well wishes
SmugMug > popular > Other > my favorite wta bus 06/07/08 many of the wta (whatcom transit authority - whatcom is the county i live in) buses have decorative paint jobs. there are a couple that are particularly special. this is one of them. children from the area were encouraged to submit drawings and then some of these were chosen to be enlarged and used to decorate the coaches. this is my fav as the cat hula dancing in the grass skirt makes me smile and feel a bit more hopeful for this poor benighted world everytime i see it. despite nearing 70,000 population bellingham has retained its 'small town' feel and much of that attitude and has a lot of community projects and contests like this. many of the buses have local schoolkids drawings and also local poets poems inside in addition to the usual ads and admonitions
SmugMug > popular > Other > DOD and the little boss 08/02/08 this is a 'cheat' because i didn't shoot it. i'm posting it anyway because i like it and i'm 'lawyering' that it was shot with my camera. i was just too tired to shoot much so passed the camera on. DOD packed a big oxygen tank in the car and made it out to dinner HURRAY! aas you can guess he's much improved, docs don't like to use words like miracles but since the consensus when he was in the hospital a while ago, http://dedmanshootn.smugmug.com/gallery/4753036_v9Lqd#314391461_stAdb , was that he should go into a hospice and would likely be dead by now there isn't much else they can say. thank you all who've prayed and hoped! too tired when i got home to process and post so i'm posting now that i finally woke up (two-thirty p.m.). hope y'all are doing great and i look forward to catching up on what i've been missing in your always interesting dps
SmugMug > popular > Other > June 9, 2008 Slide As with every other sport I've photographed, the first time out is usually a bit of a bust with oodles of lessons learned for next time, and a few decent images. I had some time to kill this weekend before my equine portrait session, so decided to see what I could do with the events that were going on in the arena. I could watch these riders all day long . . . They are amazing and their animals are absolute works of art.

SmugMug > popular > Other > strangled iris 05/28/08 i did laundry today and as its 4 flights of stairs each way once i get down i usually stay down until the laundry's done. i took my camera and shot quite a few things in the laundry room i thought i might use for a dp. will probably post something from them but i went outside while the dryers were running and found this shot i liked best for today
