The red wing blackbird was chasing this egret all over the wetlands at Huntley Meadows, and when he was done, perched nearby and gave the egret a tongue lashing to boot.

these were right by my building and i couldn't resist a shot on my way to work. good thing cuz i was thrashed after just a lunch shift (actually slept the last forty minutes or so) and just came home and crashed and burned. i liked the delicate color and, of course, it IS a weed
SmugMug > popular today > 07-26-08 I stopped out at the cemetery yesterday and got some shots of one of my favorite statues. The poses are quite interesting and very expressive.
SmugMug > popular today > The previous 7 pictures should cover me until I get back.
I'm flying the friendly skies to get my mom.
Catch up with all of you then.
Peace, gail

Ps. Thanks so, so, much for all your prayers, hugs and comments. Love this place.
SmugMug > popular today > 2008.07.24 (Fri) - I was bad, I said I would bike in but I drove into work. I don't know how many times I had to tell the Jury Duty story but the other two developers on my team were as tired of hearing it as I was telling it! I ended up working a long day, I brought dinner home for B. (3 guesses what and the 1st two guesses don't count)

After dinner B and I took off with the camera and went to watch the beavers. We sat around for nearly an hour and caught some good shots. There were at least 4 beavers hanging around and eating. A couple of them came as close at 10 feet. We think they are like the T-Rex in Jurassic Park, if you don't move, they can't see you! Heh..

Well, this was one of the better shots that I took. B took a few good ones as well, I'll post 'em later. Robin called at 9:18 to say she was on her way home, she got a little upset that we went and saw the beavers without her. She has the weekend off so we'll take her tomorrow now that we know the secret to beaver spying...

Until tomorrow,

Darron

Laura is one of our regular customers at the store. We spent a few minutes sitting outside today at lunch time enjoying the sunshine, and as I had my camera handy, I couldn't resist. I wish I had run in and grabbed a reflector to lighten up the eyes, but as usual, my brain kicks in 20 minutes later!
SmugMug > popular today > The Zone (B&W)...07/26/08

Always take your photos with contrast in mind (you can't correct for that effectively in PhotoShop) and make sure you can see a strong black and a strong white (going back to the old red vs green vs yellow vs blue vs orange filter days). You want to start with a file you can work with. I knew, before I took this shot, that it was going to be B&W. I tried to create flat lighting so that I could work with the shadows (and the highlights would just fall into place...Zone). Decide if you have more shadows than highlights. This determines the lighting.

Comments are for those who know whom I'm speaking to. Others, just enjoy.
