SmugMug > popular today > Day 185 - Models and Muscle Cars

Tonight we had an outing with the local photography group. They arranged for several models to pose for us using some muscle cars and racing bikes. It was my first experience working with models. Everyone had a great time, including myself. The models are attending a local community college and use these events to help build their portfolio.

Amazing how fast 3 hours goes by. :) The weather finally held out after two prior reschedules, we were about to call it quits, when we saw the forecast for tonight. Although a bit chilly, the sun really held out and gave us a spectacular sunset to boot! :)

I look forward to the next meetup. Its great to meet other local photographers and get to know the models who are very professional. Finding the right words can be difficult at times, but the models are very understanding and patient. :)

As you can see, I was able to get real close to this fly. I love my macro lens. The photo is cropped, but nothing too extreme. And in case you're wondering, yes, that out of focus spot is fly poop.

"HELL-OO...GOT SOME SEED IN THERE?"

Little Tufted Titmouse peering in the kitchen window. Seems that the humans are quite interesting for many of our backyard wildlife! lol

(Aug. 20, 2008) This mustang was a little bossy in the pen. The original shot was blurry to start with, as I had the camera dialed in for slower shots at f8, so I decided to go with the flow and emphasize the blur instead.

Non-sports fans need read no further, I'm banging on about the Olympics again :) On a slightly more serious note, if it wasn't for the Olympics my brain might well have exploded today. I have been on the wrong end of so much incompetence that I am left fuming. Billions of dollars are transfered electronically every minute of every day, and yet some idiots managed to mess up a transaction of mine for only £150, which resulted in an order being delayed until after the weekend, which will result in at least 40 customers getting very annoyed and my cash flow being severely restricted. No one will accept responsibility, let alone apologise, and guess who will end up carrying the can?

But then there was the Olympics. How can I be annoyed when Usain Bolt ran the greatest race in history, breaking a record that has stood for 12 years, and many thought would stand for another 12, when he was tired, and running into a headwind! When Tasha Danvers, a less well known athlete, won a bronze medal after a year of battling injury after injury. When a South African swimmer became the first amputee to take part in the full-blown Olympics. I love all sport, well apart from synchronised swimming, but... well I won't go there. These men and women sweat blood, sometimes literally, and today I was moved almost to tears several times by their efforts. This one is for you guys. Go Team GB :)

this is one of the last pictures i took before getting my DSLR - it has been taken on Kodak 200 film, and scanned. even worse, the shop scanning it for me had scratched the entire film series...

the quality is a bit iffy, but i have always loved this one. and today i am really happy - this has been chosen in the frame of a photo award, and is going to be published. that's a first for me. i've tried so often, and finally, it has worked. :-)

When I stared my walk yesterday this little guy flew around in front of me and I took a few shots. I took 3 more steps and he/she landed in front of me as if to say "take my picture" I took a bunch and was able to get down onto the ground and close before he/she flew away. I was impressed. I had a shot for POD after taking 20 pic's I was sure I had something :) While walking this inspiration came to me and I processed the shots with this in mind looking for one with the wings unfolded and I did not have to rotate much. I chose this one as I liked the deep brown colors and the way the sun played out on the wings. I did a little process in LR along with rotating the butterfly to this angle and then the frame work here in PS. Hope you enjoy.
Counting the days till Friday evening when my vacation starts!!! My daughter is already packing, we are going to the beach for a week :)
