DailyPhoto 1-6-2010

A pretty much straight forward 3 exposure HDR shot of the ocean dunes taken 12-27-2009 and processed this morning.

And Patti would really like to thank everyone for the kind comments on her berry shot yesterday. Made her smile :-)

Series: The Streets of Cape Town

A young boy waves goodbye to his mother in Woodstock, a really low income, struggling suburb, close to the city centre. This is the type of photography I so love, spontaneous, unposed, random street scenes filled with life, emotions and passion!

SmugMug > popular today > Maeve and Grandpa.

Larry was throwing snowballs at the door and when they hit, Maeve would put both hands on her head and say Oh No!. Of course, by the time I got the camera, they were simply waving at each other. But I still thought it made for a cute shot anyway. (January 5, 2010)

SmugMug > popular today > 01-06-2010: tea?

maybe just a nice cup of tea today... temps are supposed to be in the 50's today for us. i know that's warm for many of you, but it's a little chilly for us. supposed to get a cold front.. maybe tomorrow.. to drop us down a bit.. oh no!

the tea canister is part of an aluminum set.. coffee, sugar, flour... the tea is some sort of herbal, i think..

hump day... it's a busy one for me.. every day is busy, but today, i get to be busy in a few different locations..

y'all do something that makes you happy today.. maybe laugh a little..
SmugMug > popular today > 01-06-10 Not the most creative, but after 12...I can't use a standard clock anymore. Thought I would get it in now.

SmugMug > popular today > 01/06/10 - The Old Homestead
I'm working a split shift this week, so the boys and I had a chance to run a few errands yesterday afternoon. On the way, I drove past one of my favorite subjects. I don't know why I like this old homestead so much, but I do. It's just a few miles from my house. I watch the seasons change around it every year, and every time I take pictures of it, I get something different out of it. Problem is, it's waaaaaay far away from where I can stand on the other side of a fence, and it's hard to get there when the sun is shining more on the front. Anyway, I took a bunch of shots which are in my January 2010 gallery including some bracketed images. I had taken some bracketed images and decided to see what PhotoMatrix would do. Boy was I surprised when I saw this! What a difference in this case!

I wish I had more history to tell you. One of the major families that owns land in the area I live in once lived in this house. Beyond that, I don't know more. I talked to someone going through the fence one day a year or so ago and he gave me a bit of information, but I don't remember it all now:-(

A shot showing the larger area:

I did post this homestead once before about day 60 for my POTD, and there's a whole gallery of shots over the years of this homestead here:

I know, this is not circles and not vivid colors and just so different from what I so often post. I can be quite ecclectic switching from one withing to another:-)

Thank you for all your comments on the Croc shot:-) That was a fun one!

Late note: I finally found the comment that I had documented last year this time about this homestead. The comment read:
According to Stan who was an older guy going on to the land to hunt, this is the old David Jones homestead.
I sent a note to the Wake County historical society, and I did more Google searches. I did not recover any additional facts. Note the chimney on the backside and the small normalish looking front door. If I ever see someone else entering the property, I will ask for permission or how to obtain permission to explore the structure more closely. I will also ask for more history:-) I originally assumed this was a barn, but Stan said homestead and talked about people living here... Maybe someday we'll know for sure. Next time I should remember to let the person tell me the story on a video since my camera has one built in!

HAGD,
Maryann
