sis and i stopped by the cemetery to see mum and DOD's memorial over the week-end. it was very interesting to me that they ended up here as i nicknamed this fountain 'ghost dance' when they first moved to the area over thirty-two years ago. this section of the cemetery is in a hollow that often fills with mist, the lighted fountain on a misty night looked very cool when we'd drive home after dinner at mum's favorite steak restaurant. the plots were all long sold but we were able to purchase a pair side-by-side 'secondhand' when mum died. i shot sis paying her respects from the edge of the fountain

I have never taken a river photo that I've truly LOVED -- until now! I just absolutely loved the way this one turned out, I was so darn proud. ;-) It was a lovely little river to start with, and then I tried a few different things and this one just LEAPED out at me when I put them on the computer and I said, "That HAS to be my photo of the day!" No tree shot today, I liked this one better. :-)

The block is starting wear off and I can now feel absolutely everything. Not fun. I'm just glad I finally got the courage to get it done and now it is.
SmugMug > popular today > "Liquid Gold"
I've been wanting to play around with water for some time now and I finally got around to trying it out today for the first time. I have a lot of stuff to learn about this but I figured I'd try some techniques I use for other things to see if they work. Some of them did, some of them didn't, so it was a good learning experience anyway.

Lighting was provided by a 500 watt work light set in front of the camera to back light the water drop and between the WB I used and the Kelvin temp of the bulb I managed to make plain old water in a plain glass dish look like liquid gold and it has a metallic appearance which I was very satisfied with in the end. Let me know what you think !

The reflection in the drop is that of the work light I used in perfect shape, pretty cool ! I used a 1" deep glass dish to hold the water and a ear cleaning bulb to hold & drop the water from above. Camera was set up on a tripod at dish level and I used a cable release to pull the trigger. Lens was my Tamron Di 90mm Macro f/2.8 set to limited zoom and was about 8" away from the dish. Post consisted of sharpening, crop and frame addition.

Enjoy your day everyone !

Curl Up and Dye

A hairdresser in LaGrange, TX has a wonderful sense of humor. This salon next door to the historic cemetery has called out to me the last three or four times I have passed through town.

It seems like the only times I travel, it is because I am on my way someplace. DOH! Taking the time for unassigned photo stops is a luxury that I still don't afford myself often enough. This stop on the way home from our Thanksgiving gathering was planned from the get-go. Is it bad to laugh in the cemetery?
