January 2019 Product Release Notes
One of my New Year’s resolutions is to do a better job of informing all of you about the improvements we’re making on SmugMug. Last month we talked about how SmugMug grew in 2018 and I want to keep that communication going with monthly release notes.
Here’s what we’re working on, through January 24, 2019:
When creating new Folders, Galleries, and Pages within the Organizer, we now describe what each type is and how you might use them.
The Organizer looks a lot snazzier when you’re browsing empty Folders, Galleries and Pages; specifically it’s a lot more useful, indicating what you can do and how to add more content.
When “replacing” a photo, we now grab all the metadata from the new version and update SmugMug to use that new information*. Previously the new metadata was being ignored.(* If you updated the Title, Caption or Keyword on SmugMug, we’ll ignore the new one and always keep the version that was on SmugMug.)
Removed the ability to set a Cart Branding photo. The shopping cart no longer uses logos but is branded to use your theme, making the entire checkout experience feel cohesive.
When placing an order, we now show the logo of the credit card that corresponds to the number of the card you entered as a safety check.
When purchasing prints, we’ve improved the description of how long your order will take to arrive.
We’ve clarified the wording when a visitor has to enter their email address for a Gallery Download.
Updated the list of available Keepsakes that are available for purchase.
Cleaned up the photo commenting experience to make it a little smoother and more stable.
Modernized how we save changes to the Title, Caption, and Keywords on a photo to be more stable (but the overall experience is still the same).
Playing a slideshow in the Lightbox launched from the Organizer can now beautifully cross-fade between photos.
Removed the “Facebook Login” and “Social Accounts” blocks from Account Settings since they no longer managed anything.
Fixed an issue with the “Help Guides” showing up for some new customers when they shouldn’t have.
Fixed some display problems when adding multiple photos to your cart.
Fixed an issue where some proof delay orders were unavailable to manage immediately after an order was placed.
Some URL’s to help pages in Account Settings were 404'ing — they now link to the proper help page.
Some behaviors in the Lightbox launched from the Organizer were behaving weirdly — they’re now under better control.
Fixed an issue that was causing some WHCC Metal Prints to not be printed or were printed incorrectly.
We missed a few places where our (now very old logo) was being used in some of our automated emails. The right logo is now used (and we have no plans to change the logo any time soon, in case you were curious).
Opening the Lightbox after opening a video no longer causes an “Ooops, we’re sorry” page error.
When we launched the updates to how we handle “replaced” photos, Galleries set to “Date Taken” weren’t having their sort order update to use any new dates. Galleries now properly sort by Date Taken.
